General ophthalmology

General ophthalmology covers all consultations aimed at preserving your vision and eye health, at every age. Whether for an eye check, screening, the follow-up of an eye disease or the onset of new symptoms, we offer you comprehensive and personalised care.

Vision check

An eye examination makes it possible to assess your vision and determine the optical correction best suited to your needs.

  • Complete visual assessment
  • Prescription and renewal of glasses or contact lenses
  • Correction tailored to your visual needs and activities

Screening and management

Some eye diseases progress for a long time without causing symptoms. Regular examinations allow them to be detected early and their consequences on vision to be limited.

We screen for and manage the main eye conditions:

  • Glaucoma and other optic nerve disorders
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other macular diseases
  • Diabetic retinopathy and other retinal conditions
  • Diseases of the cornea and ocular surface
  • Cataract

The frequency of check-ups is tailored to your age, medical history, risk factors and the results of previous examinations. The following situations call for particular monitoring:

A first complete eye examination is recommended from the age of 40. When a close relative has glaucoma, closer monitoring than in the general population is advised, depending on other risk factors and the results of the assessment.

With a family history of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), monitoring every 1 to 2 years from the age of 50 is recommended. The frequency is adjusted according to family history and other risk factors, particularly smoking.

Regular monitoring of the retina is recommended for patients with diabetes, most often once a year. Check-ups may be spaced out when there is no retinopathy or, conversely, brought closer together when the retina is affected.

An annual retinal examination with pupil dilation is recommended in order to detect retinal complications associated with high myopia at an early stage.

Certain general illnesses and treatments require specific eye monitoring. The type and frequency of examinations are determined individually according to the situation.

Visual fitness and driving licence

We carry out the examinations required to assess visual fitness to drive, as well as the eye assessments needed when visual abilities must undergo a specific evaluation.
