Our equipment

Examinations carried out at the practice

The practice has a complete range of equipment, allowing many of the examinations needed to diagnose, monitor and treat eye conditions to be carried out on site.

Visual field

The visual field examination assesses peripheral and central vision and plays an essential role in the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma and of certain conditions of the optic nerve. The practice has two complementary techniques:

  • Octopus 600 automated visual field (Haag-Streit)
  • Goldmann manual kinetic visual field

This examination can also be carried out as part of an assessment of visual fitness to drive.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

The Spectralis (Heidelberg) and Optovue (Visionix) OCT devices produce highly detailed images of the various structures of the eye, and do so non-invasively.

The Optovue also performs OCT angiography, which visualises the blood vessels of the retina and choroid without any injection of contrast dye.

They allow in particular the study of:

  • The retina
  • The macula
  • The optic nerve
  • The anterior segment of the eye
  • The blood vessels of the retina and choroid (OCT angiography)

OCT is used to diagnose and monitor many conditions, in particular glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and certain conditions of the anterior segment.

Corneal topography

The Pentacam topographer (Oculus) carries out a detailed three-dimensional analysis of the cornea and of the anterior segment of the eye.

It allows in particular the study of:

  • The shape and curvature of the cornea
  • Its thickness
  • The anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea
  • The anterior chamber of the eye

It is particularly useful for the diagnosis and monitoring of corneal conditions, notably keratoconus, as well as for certain preoperative assessments.

Specular microscopy

Specular microscopy makes it possible to study the corneal endothelium, the layer of cells on the inner surface of the cornea.

It measures the density of the endothelial cells and analyses their morphology. This examination is used in particular for the diagnosis and monitoring of certain diseases of the cornea, as well as as part of preoperative assessments.

Optical biometry

Biometry carried out with the IOLMaster 700 (Zeiss) provides the precise measurements of the eye needed to calculate the power of the intraocular implant, in particular before cataract surgery.

It also measures the axial length of the eye. This measurement is particularly useful in children and adolescents, to assess and monitor the progression of myopia, notably as part of care intended to slow it down.

Nd:YAG laser

The practice is equipped with an Nd:YAG laser, allowing certain ophthalmic laser treatments to be carried out on site, in particular:

  • Peripheral laser iridotomy, used in certain forms of glaucoma or where there is a risk of angle closure
  • Laser capsulotomy, performed in the event of clouding of the posterior capsule, which can occur after cataract surgery
