What happens during a consultation?

So that we can carry out a thorough assessment suited to your situation, the consultation usually takes place in several stages.

Your arrival at the practice

When you arrive, our reception team checks the information needed for your file. Please remember to bring your insurance card and to tell us of any change of address, telephone number or email address.

At your first consultation, you will be given a form concerning the processing of your personal data. Medical services are invoiced through the Caisse des Médecins, in compliance with the protection of your data.

Our team also carries out the first technical measurements, in particular an automated measurement of your refraction and a check of your current correction with a lensmeter.

Please remember to bring your glasses, even if you do not wear them all the time: their correction can then be measured and compared with your current vision, to check that it is still suitable.

We recommend that you come without wearing your contact lenses. If that is not possible, bring your case and what you need to remove them before the examinations.

For certain corneal examinations, a specific period without lenses may be required. You will be given the instructions when you book your appointment.

The pre-consultation

You are then seen by one of our optometrists or by our orthoptist, who checks your vision and carries out the additional examinations required for the reason of your consultation.

If an examination of the back of the eye under dilation is indicated, drops are administered. A waiting time is then needed before the medical examination.

Dilation causes blurred vision for several hours, particularly for near vision, as well as increased sensitivity to light.

You must not drive after your pupils have been dilated. If possible, plan another means of transport. Sunglasses may also be useful.

The medical consultation

The doctor reviews and completes the information gathered during the pre-consultation, then carries out the medical examination: measurement of the intraocular pressure, slit-lamp examination and examination of the back of the eye, as well as any other examination indicated by your situation.

At the end of the consultation, the doctor explains the results of the assessment and, if necessary, suggests treatment, further examinations or suitable follow-up.
